Smooth, light and corrosion-proof: the standard for new drain and sewer lines for decades.
PVC (white or cream) and ABS (black) are rigid plastic pipes that have been the standard for residential drains since the 1970s. They are smooth, corrosion-proof, easy to cut and glue together and rated for many decades of use.
Problems come from installation, not the material: poor slope, loose or glue-starved joints, damage from heavy loads or settlement. When we repair or replace a line, PVC or ABS is usually what we use, with proper bedding, slope, supports and cleanouts.
Less friction and less buildup.
No rust and no scale.
Cut, couple and glue.
Correct fall keeps it clean.
Rated for long life when installed well.
Easy cleaning access.
