Toilet Clogs and Backups

A stubborn toilet is either a local clog or a warning from the main line. We find out which and fix it properly.

A single toilet that will not flush is often a local clog, and a closet auger can clear it without scratching the porcelain. But a toilet that backs up when you run the shower, or that clogs again within days, is telling you the line behind it is partly blocked.

We start with the quick fix, then check the flange, the branch and the main line. If a toy, a thick wad of paper or a pile of wipes is the culprit, we retrieve it carefully. If the cause is deeper, we clear it with a machine and use a camera to see why it happened.

Questions

Toilet Clogs FAQ

Why does my toilet clog so often?

Common causes include low-flow flush strength, too much paper, wipes, or a partial blockage in the branch or main line. A camera inspection finds the real cause.

Are flushable wipes really flushable?

They are a leading cause of clogs. We recommend putting wipes in the trash, even when the package says flushable.

Should I use a plunger or a snake first?

A flange plunger is fine for light clogs. If it does not work after a few tries, call us before things overflow.

Can a toilet clog be a sign of a sewer problem?

Yes, especially if other drains are slow or gurgle.
